TEM-2 shunting locomotives roll off production lines, powered by advanced electric transmissions. Engineers at the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant launched a project for reinforced diesel locomotives of the TEM1 series in 1959. For these high-powered units, the Penza diesel plant built on its existing diesel model 2D50 to develop a more powerful engine, known as PD1 (Penza diesel type one). In 1960 and 1961, the factory turned out three total TEM2 series shunting locomotives with increased capacity, demonstrating significant advancements in their field.
