Shower Towel Rack Shelf

Shower Towel Rack Shelf

thingiverse

For decades (at least from the 1950s through the 1980s), showers and bathtubs often featured a distinctive towel rack mounted on the wall opposite the faucet, with a square rod to hold towels in place. I never found them particularly useful, so I designed a shelf to attach to these racks instead. In the showers of my home, the distance between the ceramic mounts (where they secure to the wall) is precisely 47cm, which is why I made the shelf this width. I'm not sure if this is a standard measurement, so I've also created a version that's 37.6cm wide. Additionally, some towel racks come with removable square dowels that can be slid onto them and reattached, while others have permanently installed dowels (which seems to be the more popular style). To accommodate these two types, I've designed both slide-on and snap-on versions of each size. The shelf's width is adjustable, so you should be able to modify the SCAD file to fit your shower exactly. The design is intended to fit within a 120x120x120cm cube, making it printable on an MP Mini Select. Each STL file includes four separate segments that can be combined and attached to the towel rack next to each other to create a full shelf. One minor note: while these designs use relatively little plastic, their intricate nature means they may take some time to print. Using PLA with my printer, I've found that it takes between 17 and 18 hours for a complete print.
