Shower Knob with 3:1 Gear Ratio
thingiverse
A simple, 3:10 gear ratio knob allows for precise adjustment of water temperature in the shower with minimal effort required. One each of several parts is needed, except for gears which demand three. Additionally, M5 bolts and MR105ZZ bearings are used for the three planet gears. Post-print sanding and painting bring the gear ring to a polished finish. The gear ring is then glued into position on the shower, while the remaining planetary gear components fit snugly into the gear ring and over the shower valve. Finally, the knob fits securely over the assembled planetary gear assembly. This design may require modification to accommodate most shower valves. Currently, no part holds the gears in place, resulting in a slight offset that creates a tighter fit. In the future, if necessary, this issue will be addressed by modeling and adding a part to secure the gears.
