Shotgun Shellter
thingiverse
The 'Shellter', inspired by hermit crabs' habit of inhabiting shotgun shells, is a work in progress designed to provide an artificial shell for these creatures. The creator has considered the ridges and metal lip found in most shotgun shells while adding a slight curve to accommodate the crab's curved abdomen. As the current design is small and requires resizing based on the specific hermit crab, future variations with "D"-shaped openings and thinner, longer models with sharper curves are planned. To use the Shellter, resize and rotate the file for printing, ensuring 100% infill and no extra walls. Sand the inside with low and high grit sandpaper for a smooth finish. If available, gently use a heat gun on its lowest setting to avoid melting the model while focusing on the opening.
