Here's how it works: I design things and then I use software to make them. This shot glass, for example, started as a digital model created with SolidWorks. That's where the initial design was sketched out and turned into a 3D file called an STL. The STL is what gets sent to the machine that actually makes the thing. In this case, the machine used is a 3D printer.
