ShopVac Diffuser

ShopVac Diffuser

thingiverse

This diffuser/baffle fits the exhaust port on a ShopVac-style vacuum, redirecting airflow and creating turbulence to minimize dust disturbance. Its design features multiple holes on its surface that sum up to about 1.5 times the area of the exhaust port, ensuring no back-pressure is generated. The sound emitted by my vacuum remains unchanged when attaching this part. The STL file provided for download was created to fit a Home Depot Ridgid 60-litre Vac, with an exhaust port diameter of approximately 2 1/4 inches. You may need to scale the design up or down to accommodate other vacuum types. To ensure a secure fit, a strip of duct tape must be wrapped around the rim; this seals the gap and provides a tight seal, as evidenced by the included photos. No support structures are required for printing, as it can be done without them. This part was printed at low quality on a Makerbot Rep2 in approximately 2 hours. There is an unnecessary mouse-ear feature at the bottom; this can either be removed or clipped off with an exacto. Design files created using Autodesk Fusion 360 are included for anyone who wants to refine the design further, including the F3D archive. Printer Settings Used: MakerBot Resolution: low Infill: 10%
