I designed an upgraded power coupler for my Shopsmith that exceeds the existing designs on this site. My creation boasts several key features: - A ring on the outside clearly displays the side with four internal splines, which is designated as the drive side. - External grooves are strategically placed to match the location of these splines, making it easy to line up. - Chamfered entrances facilitate smooth insertion of the drive hubs, ensuring a snug fit once they're in place. - This design was specifically crafted for 3D printing, with no horizontal overhangs to accommodate any printing challenges. - A straight tube on the outside ensures that there's no thinner section in the middle. From a stress standpoint, it's more effective to maintain the maximum outer diameter and remove material from the inside. Initially, I attempted to print this coupler using ABS with 30% 3D honeycomb infill and attached it to a strip sander attachment. However, it broke after just 20 minutes of use. To address this issue, I increased the infill percentage to 70%, and now it functions flawlessly.
