Shooko - Schuko Adapter for Moosimeters

thingiverse

This is an adapter for the Mooshimeter wireless multimeter that I use on home appliances for quick and safe measurements of power consumption and power factor. WORK IN PROGRESS: I'm not entirely satisfied with the bulkiness and plainness of the design, but it does get the job done in a safe manner. Oct 3rd, 2015: Improved placement of plug holes was made, adding a lid and labels to the adapter. Oct 11th, 2015: Additional stability improvements were implemented. Three holes on the adapter are designed for shrouded banana plugs that will be connected directly into the Mooshimeter. These banana plugs can be sourced by cutting leftover leads from old multimeters or purchased online from stores like Mouser. Once obtained, wire them to a Schuko-plug and wall socket - both of which should be readily available at your local hardware store, with some also carrying multimeter leads for purchase. The adapter features M3 stand-offs and a retainer plate to secure the banana plugs in place; I recommend applying hot glue on the sides for added stability. As banana plug shapes vary across different manufacturers, I couldn't create an ideal retainer in this design model. The provided images depict my initial prototype - one that was printed hastily with layers separating at points, resulting in external hot glue to hold it together. Moreover, this early version featured incorrectly aligned holes so the meter is mounted unevenly parallel to the case. However, these flaws are corrected within the .slt files uploaded alongside this text. The revised design you can find there includes added safety features to prevent users from accidentally plugging in their meter in the wrong way. CONNECTIONS: The Schuko plug earth connector must be connected directly to the Schuko socket's earth point. Next, connect the Schuko plug neutral point to the Banana Amp lead labeled "A". After that, plug the Schuko plug live connection into the Schuko socket's live wire. Now, secure the Banana Common (C) point by connecting it with the Schuko socket's neutral line. Finally, attach the Banana Voltage lead (labeled "V") directly to the Schuko socket's live power line. Print Settings: Rafts: Does not apply Supports: Yes Infill Percentage: 10% Notes: I created this print by using HIPS on a LulzBot Mini while maintaining a layer height of .38mm and operating at temperatures around 240°C. Using the software application Cura, I added supports set to "touch build plate". If you plan to reproduce it in PLA instead, your prints might come out with improved results.
