Shoji Lantern (easy assembly version)
thingiverse
I LOVE the original shoji lantern design by dheera, and have the utmost respect for the traditional joinery techniques. However, I also found it rather fiddly to assemble, and I preferred to opt for a ready-made light source. So I made the following changes: Bars: I adjusted the spacing on the joint only, widening them by just a couple tenths of a mm. It's small, but it made a huge difference in the ability to twist them into place during assembly, and still had a good friction fit, especially after painting Base: I reshaped the base to accept a store-bought LED tealight, like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075QBCT5L/ref=sbl_dpx_B06XCTP65H_0. While you could hot-glue/epoxy it into place and use the opening in the bottom to operate the on-off switch, I still removed the lock-bar setup so that the upper frame could be lifted off to replace the light or batteries, and make switch operation that much easier. The friction/spring force of the bars still keeps the frame and base in place for me. All other parts (roof, windows panes) remain unchanged from the original model, and can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4462953. Finally, I have to apologize for essentially undoing the perfection of the original. Just trying to help.
