People crafted shoes from cowhide featuring elongated toes, which were all the rage between late 1100s and 1300s. This shoe piece was uncovered in the moat at Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway during excavations between 1955-1966. Archaeologists discovered that many of the shoe soles found in the moat were cut with a knife. For more on visiting Caerlaverock Castle, check out our website.
