Here is a device for measuring men’s shoe size. A standard feature in most shoe stores is a Brannock device for measuring foot size. It is a quality aluminum device that has become the standard for US shoe sizes. But many people are now buying shoes in the internet and lack a way to determine their foot size. Here is a low cost way to make such a device..It is divided into 3 sections so the pieces will fit on more common size 3D printers. Largest dimension on the largest part is 7.4” (188mm). Printing time for all parts totaled about 18 hours. Support was not needed.The parts can be glued together or, for strength, can be bolted together. The labels are printed out and then glued in place. When printing, note that the .PDF must be ‘actual size’ not ‘fit to page’. When correctly printed the longest labels will be 6.00”(152mm) long. Refer to the photo for label orientation.There is a risk that the parts could be printed inaccurately so a dimension check is included. There are 3 small holes along the center. If correctly made the distance from the center to either outer hole will be 5” (127mm).To use, place the heel firmly into the right or left cup. Move the arch length slide until it is centered on the ball of the foot. This is widest part on the inside of the foot, just behind the toes. Slide the width slider against the foot and then read the foot length, arch length, and width. The sizes are US men’s only. Both feet must be measured because it is common for people to have one foot larger than the other.In an ideal world there would also be a measurement for the height of the foot. In Europe there are some devices with a string that is tightened over the top of the foot to measure height, but in the US that is not used on these devices. Most internet shoe sources do not show foot height or arch length, and many do not even show widths but I hope this will provide some assistance when buying shoes.
