Shoe Patcher Bobbin Winder (standalone)

The built in bobbin winder on my "Chinese Leather Shoe Patcher" or CLSP for short is absolute trash. I decided to make my own freestanding version because gears are fun! This is essentially my 5th revision, I believe it's the best mix of strength vs volume of plastic. My earlier designs only used one small gear and honestly this is really all that's needed, I added a second gear mainly to invert the motion so that the bobbin turns in the same direction as the crank. I've included a printable bobbin spindle but I suggest grinding your own tapered bolt instead as it will last much longer. The hardware I used is No. 10 Machine Screws (10-24 x 1.5") QTY 2 No. 4 Machine Screw (4-40 x .75") QTY 1 1/4" x 1.5" Hex Bolt Note that thread pitch isn't critical because we're essentially tapping the holes in the model as we screw them in. Small Gears use the No. 10 machine screws. 1.5" ones seemed to be a good length if you're grinding a taper on the end to hold the bobbin. Please note that these are meant to thread into the small gear/hex gear/bobbin spindle. The model is designed for my printer and the fit is such that you need a little elbow grease to thread it in the first time, this is good since the bolt is intended to spin along with the small gear. The hole through the frame however should be just big enough to allow the #10 bolt through and have only enough play to allow free rotation. Big Gear uses the hex bolt and the 4-40 machine screw. The bolt is for the crank handle and the 4-40 screw holds the cap over the end of the axle. I chose the 4-40 simply because I had a bunch of them. Designed using Sketchup Make 17.
