Shiva Seated on Nandi the Bull
myminifactory
This striking figurine depicts the Hindu God Shiva, seated on the humped back of Nandi; his trusted bull. Riding in a side saddle position, Shiva is shown brandishing an impressive golden trident (Trishula) which symbolises the equilibrium of Shiva’s three aspects “creator, preserver and destroyer". Gently raising his right hand, it’s clear to see Shiva’s third eye, representing fire. Both Shiva and Nandi are intricately decorated, with the sacred bull-calf adorned with garlands of flowers and chains of bells around her neck. Nandi symbolises the religious duty of a devotee and serves as Shiva’s processional vehicle (vahana). This thoughtful statuette perfectly demonstrates Nandi's intimate relationship with Shiva and illustrates why many worshippers first pay homage to her. Finely burnished in bronze and offset with touches of red and blue, this piece has a wonderful patina and will undoubtedly make a striking addition to your collection. htschool.hindustantimes.com/editorsdesk/knowledge-vine/nandi-lord-shivas-sacred-bull- who-was-cursed-by-parvati
