The USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides," is a three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy and one of its most historic ships. Launched on October 21, 1797, she was originally designed to intimidate France into surrendering its interests in North America during the Quasi-War with that country. The ship's name comes from the U.S. Constitution, which had gone into effect just two years earlier.
