The S300 Train Car is a High-Speed Shinkansen Type A Japanese high-speed train, the 300 series (Sanbyaku-kei), was designed for top operational speeds of up to 270 km/h (170 mph). Operating between 1992 and 2012 on Japan's Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, these trains were initially used on the fastest Nozomi services. With a speed of 270 km/h (170 mph), they quickly replaced earlier units on Hikari service. As more trains were delivered, the displaced 100 series units finally took over from the 0 series units on most routes by 1998.
