Changing the shifter cable on Shimano trigger shifters is an effortless process. Simply remove the small plastic plug to gain a clear shot at pulling out the old cable and inserting a new one. Once done, screw the plug back into place as soon as it's located. It was right here just moments ago; perhaps it fell onto the floor. The cost of purchasing a genuine Shimano replacement isn't prohibitive, but it can be inconvenient. Visiting the local bike shop for this reason alone may not be worth the trip. Alternatively, ordering online and waiting up to a week (plus shipping costs) might not be ideal either. Printing one yourself would provide the replacement quickly, in any desired color (even glow-in-the-dark, making it easier to spot if dropped next time). It's also worth noting that while Shimano originals can be installed or removed using a Phillips or flat-blade screwdriver, having access to a 4mm hex drive might be a useful option. To accommodate this, files for both versions have been included. Upon inspection, the original Shimano part appears to be made of nylon. A printed version made from ABS seems to thread in and hold securely enough.
