Shimano Roadshoe strap

Shimano Roadshoe strap

So when my puppy takes a chunk out of the ABS strap off my roadbike shoe SH-RP300-S (https://bike.shimano.com/en-US/product/apparel-accessories/shimano/SH-RP300.html), I realize that I've got plenty of options besides buying a brand new one. First, I can scrounge up a used roadbike shoe from Craigslist and stitch the strap onto my almost-new shoe for peanuts - probably $0 to $30. Second, I can pick up a shorter Sidi strap on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/p/SIDI-Replacement-Strap-for-Caliper-Buckle-Black/1700171060) for just $9.99, even though it might not fit perfectly. Or, I can do something truly crazy: copy the straps measurements from another shoe, design a new one using FreeCAD, and print it out on my 3D printer with ABS. For someone who's never worked with a 3D printer or designed anything in FreeCAD, let alone printing ABS on an unheated bed, this option was definitely far-fetched - yet also strangely appealing. But just a week after I got my Monoprice i3 3D printer (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Monoprice-MP-i3-3D-Printer-Fully-Assembled-MicroSD-Sample-PLA-Ebay-Exclusive-/372243455532), here I was, printing out a new strap and getting back on the bike. Now that I've got this down, maybe someday I'll even print out some SPD Cleats in ABS - sounds like a wild idea, right?
