Shift Knob

Shift Knob

Summary My shift knob for my 2007 Mazda 3 broke, so instead of buying a new one, I designed and made my own simple replacement. The picture shows the knob not fully screwed on, but it goes all the way down to the dashboard. I was concerned about printing this upright without support, but it turned out perfectly fine. Since then, I've printed it upright without any supports, so you can do whatever works best for your specific printer. The thread on mine is M10x1.25, making it compatible with most shifters that have the same threading. It took a bit of effort to twist it on, but I prefer it that way to prevent it from coming loose while driving. I printed my knob with a higher infill than usual (35% vs 10%), taking into account the force exerted on the center thread/core when shifting gears. This added robustness should help it withstand daily use. I hope this project inspires others, and I'm glad to be sharing it here for the first time. Enjoy! Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Model: Replicator Rafts: Not Necessary Supports: Optional Resolution: 0.25 Infill: 20% + Notes: This print was a breeze, even with ABS plastic, which is all I had on hand.
