The shielded Savonius wind energy harvester is an advanced design of the traditional Savonius horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT). This innovative WEH allows the wind inlet to be turned towards the wind using an electric motor. In altitudes below 10 meters, HAWTs are more efficient than vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs). HAWTs can be a suitable solution for locations with high low-altitude wind speeds. Three designs have been proposed: one featuring half shield and large wind outlet (with an open cylinder side as inlet), and two with one and two wind inlets, respectively, and simple holes as outlets.
