Shelving System

Shelving System

This project is based on a shelving system I saw at work, but it was way out of my price range - or at least way overpriced. So, I designed and printed the tube joiner brackets, shelf brackets, and back panel brackets myself. The number of items printed depends on how tall, wide, many shelves, and how many back panels are needed. In addition to printed parts, the following components were used: Ikea Wall Units, mild steel tube from Metals4U in the UK, and 12mm thick plywood painted black. For this particular project, I utilized: 8x 3-way joiners, 12x 4-way joiners, 4x 5-way joiners, 24x shelf brackets, and 12x back panel brackets. I also needed the right size screws for fixing bottom brackets to top of cabinet and fixing cabinet feet. The Ikea unit is a bit strange with its hollow boards, so I required the correct sizes. When fixing the brackets on top, I used longer screws on the corners so they could bite into something. The middle ones going into a 15mm board needed shorter screws. I drilled the brackets before screwing them to the cabinet. The cabinet feet are also going into 15mm board, so I found some thicker gauge screws (and added washers) from an old Ikea project. The following components were used: METOD Wall cabinet with shelves/2 doors, black, Tingsryd black, 80x60x38.6cm; 15.9mm X 1.2mm (5/8"OD X 18 swg) L=326mm (x12); 15.9mm X 1.2mm (5/8"OD X 18 swg) L=370mm (x34); 322x365x12mm plywood shelves (x6); and 365x365x12mm plywood panels (x3).
