Shell (Upper Nodena)
myminifactory
This artifact originates from the Upper Nodena site. It could be a fossilized shell. Unfortunately, Dr. Hampson misclassified it as a celt. We do not know its actual purpose. The Hampson Museum Collection boasts one of the world's most remarkable collections of American Indian artistic expression and is also an essential source of information about the lives and history of late pre-Columbian peoples in the Mississippi River Valley. The museum's collections were gathered through extensive excavations at the Nodena Site as well as other sites in the region conducted by Dr. James K. Hampson, along with work done by others including the University of Alabama and the University of Arkansas. The Virtual Hampson Museum was completed by CAST in 2010. It is a groundbreaking museum that makes high-resolution data readily available, being the first of its kind to do so. The museum received scholarly recognition beginning in 2011. Below are some articles referencing the Virtual Hampson Museum.
