Shell beads were discovered at Coweeta Creek site (31Ma34), Macon County, North Carolina. These relics date back to the Mississippian period, specifically the Qualla phase (AD 1400-1700). The shell material used was marine shell. No specific dimensions are recorded for these artifacts. Catalog number 2233a3105 is assigned to them. In 2014, these items were returned to their rightful owners, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Abigail Gancz designed a digital model based on CT scans taken at UNC Hospitals before repatriation. The model's texture was created from photographs taken in 1994 and gives an approximate representation of the actual texture.
