Metal is transformed into thin, flat pieces through industrial processes, creating sheet metal, a fundamental form in metalworking. This versatile material can be cut and bent into various shapes and is used to fabricate numerous everyday objects. Sheet metal thicknesses range from thin foil or leaf to thicker plate at 6mm. In sheet metal work, punching creates desired shapes. Aluminium, brass, copper, steel, tin, nickel, and titanium are among the metals that can be formed into sheet metal. For decorative purposes, silver, gold, and platinum are used; the latter also serves as a catalyst.
