Sheep Embryo

Sheep Embryo

sketchfab

This is an image of a sheep embryo at Carnegie stages 15 - 16, specifically between 36 to 39 days old. The body wall and developing limb buds are clearly visible, along with the umbilical cord and a large central swelling that contains the liver and heart as they develop. Around the head, the pharyngeal arches can also be seen. These models were created from a single sheep embryo that was 10mm in size and had been digitized by the University of Glasgow's collection. The images are made up of 10µm thick, 1 in 6 sections that have been stained with H&E. They were originally designed for use with light microscopes. These models were generated as part of a research project for the MSc Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy program (2019) led by Keiran Tait.
