A woodworking bench is an old-fashioned tool used to hold a project in place while it's worked on with a cutting instrument like a spokeshave or drawknife. It holds slats, posts, and rungs for carving and drawing out. Woodworking bench is basically a work table for shaping with a drawknife or spokeshave. A woodworking bench consists of the platform, where the craftsman sits; the foot-operated vise, which secures the project; and the legs that support the woodworking bench while it's being carved. The foot-operated vise part includes one flat surface (to hold the project in place) and a swinging arm (pushed by the craftsman's feet to grip the project tightly against the flat surface).
