Sharpening Jig for Japanese Chisels and Planes
thingiverse
Hi there, I recently received a few Japanese chisels and planes as a gift, and I started using them right away. However, I quickly discovered that there are no sharpening jigs available for these tools because they're forged and the top and bottom faces aren't parallel to each other. So, I decided to create one myself. This jig will work with Western chisel and plane blades as well, but you may need a thicker wedge. You'll also have to find a smooth rod that's 5mm by 80mm in size. I use stainless steel rods from a printer that I took apart. Happy printing! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Additional Print Settings: * 3 Perimeters for all parts except the wheel, which used 4. * Jig Body: 0.2mm - 30% Infill * Guide: 0.2mm - 15% Infill * Edge Stop: 0.2mm - 30% Infill * Square: 0.15mm - 15% Infill - Needs Support * Wheel: 0.2mm - 20% Infill * Wedge: 0.2mm - 20% Infill * End Caps: 0.2mm - 15% Infill The files aren't properly oriented, so I'll attach a screenshot to show how to position the jig on the bed - that's the only thing that isn't straightforward. Add some Dry PTFE inside the wheel before you assemble it. Then use super glue for end caps to secure them in place. Here is a video on how to use the jig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGl2_4km_qc
