This is a step-by-step guide to sharpening knives to a precise 20% angle on a versatile Ryobi bench grinder, utilizing paper sharpening wheels. I recently acquired a high-quality Ryobi 6" Bench Grinder (BG612G) from Home Depot to hone my knife-sharpening skills with The Razer Sharp Edgemaking System (visit: http://nextgen.sharpeningwheels.com). Although the system is incredibly effective, I encountered difficulties achieving consistent edges when sharpening by hand. To overcome this challenge, I decided to turn the wheels around so that the top spins away from me and began sharpening my blades while holding them level with the ground. To accurately determine where on the wheel to position the blade, I designed these innovative edge-sharpening guides. They securely attach to the grinder and feature a clear indicator at 20% and 45%. By lining up the tip of the arrow with the center of the shaft, I hold my blade level and grind it on that specific line. The results are outstanding!
