Shark Wheel drive for electric skateboard
thingiverse
This is my maiden voyage into electric skateboards. I was really impressed by the Shark Wheels because they performed exceptionally well on the streets surrounding me, so I decided to attempt to drive them with custom 3D printed components. I got a few successful runs until things started to malfunction and I don't think they can be repaired easily. * The pulley has nothing solid to contact so it can be challenging to get aligned. This necessitates the belt to be tightened. * The pulley is too far away from the bearings. This gives the belt more leverage to pull the pulley into the trucks during intense acceleration or braking. * The angle on the pulley forces the belt off its track. For as tight as I had it this snapped the metal bands as it moved out. * The wheel is too small for an electric skateboard. I am unable to give it any more clearance around the truck. The ride was fantastic there's just not enough room to make this work reliably. For the time being I'm switching to larger wheels designed to have pulleys attached. If they ever create a version larger than 70mm I may attempt this again. I am also including my motor mount in this posting since I think the next version will be vastly different. The big cylinder is a drill jig for drilling holes for the bolts through the wheels.
