Shark - Ikea's Blåhaj (multi material)
prusaprinters

This shark is a photogrammetry scan from Ikea's plush toy called Blåhaj ;) You can see the original toy and the printed scan in the first picture. I created a multi material version of it, so you can print it in multi color. A single file for single color prints is also included.

Print instructions

Supports are definitely needed to print this model. I came up with an orientation of the model as can be seen in the third and fourth picture. I used this orientation to keep a good ratio between print quality and needed support material. I was espacially afraid about supporting the teeth since they seem to be a bit fragile. The shown orientation is not the orientation of the stl files, though.

Maybe someone finds a better orientation, or does a print with PVA/BVOH?

How I Designed This

I took 100 pictures of the toy and used Autodesk ReCap Photo to create the photogrammetry scan. Taking these pictures was fun :D I succeded by hanging the shark from my ceiling upside down. Then I walked 360° around him and took pictures from all different angles. The result turned out to be fantastic! The second pic shows the unedited* output from the ReCap Photo program. For the final result, I just smoothed the 3D model a bit.

To create the multi material version of the model, I used Meshmixer.

*unedited means, I only deleted the "noise" arond the shark, i.e. objects that were also included in the raw 3D file.
