The shar-pei figure is a compact one, with a broad, flat head and a wrinkled face that gives it a perpetually worried look. Its body is muscular and sturdy, with a deep chest and well-sprung ribs. The breed's signature feature, however, is its coat: a thick, double layer of fur that can be either loose or tight, depending on the individual dog.
