shaper machine using nautilus gear
grabcad
The shaper machine I designed uses a unique Nautilus gear mechanism, offering an improved quick return motion. Unlike traditional Whitworth machines, the Nautilus gear has a radius that changes at every angle, leading to varying RPMs. This allows for easier control of stroke lengths in both forward and reverse directions. By increasing the radius of the driver gear in forward strokes, the driven gear's radius decreases, enhancing the quick return mechanism in reverse strokes. The machine is compact, easily transportable, and serves as a mini project prototype that I have fabricated myself.
