Shapeoko 3 Dust Shoe with LED ring
thingiverse
After getting my Shapeoko 3, I learned the hard (messy) way what a dust shoe was and why you need it right away. Looking around, I couldn't find anything that met my standards, not to mention covering up the drill bit completely. Half the fun was watching this thing cut millimeter after millimeter of wood for hours on end. While this may not be as efficient at collecting dust as something with a brush that keeps everything contained, it's good enough, and I can still see what's going on. Besides, I have this nifty enclosure that keeps the dust under control for post-cut vacuuming. Anyway, looking at some nice dust shoes for various CNC machines, I decided to roll my own. Even has a 60mm LED ring adapter on the bottom to light up what's being cut (and sucked up through the hole). There are five pieces in total. The top three "plates" are screwed together with a long #6 screw (I had a bunch from Home Depot). The bottom cap is glued to the bottom plate, which was exponentially easier to print than having it as a single piece. The bottom LED ring can be screwed together with any short small self-tapping wood screw. I forgot which ones I use, but I had a bunch laying around. The LED ring itself is just zip-tied to the adapter (see pic).
