Shapeoko 3 Dust Head
thingiverse
This is a dust collection system that I designed specifically for the Shapeoko3 by Carbide3D, utilizing the DeWalt router. After several weeks of use, I'm extremely pleased with its performance. This design was created for a machine purchased in December 2018, and I have no idea if it's compatible with older machines. It uses two 1" diameter vacuum hoses positioned under the gantry to get the vacuum pull very close to the cutting tool, which I believe makes a significant improvement in the system's performance. The head allows for full view of the cutting process, captures roughly 95% of chips/dust produced, and can be adjusted vertically by 2" to accommodate various workpiece heights. Its front window is held on magnetically, making it easy to open up for tool changes or cleaning, etc. Here are a few clips of it in action: https://www.instagram.com/p/BtHEPdiAQtE/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/Bthg7JgAPZ_/?hl=en The files include: -Shapeoko Dust Head Window- This is the Carbide Create design file for the front window, obviously if you're downloading this you have a Shapeoko, so I'd suggest using the machine to mill the window. This design file is for 0.125" acrylic and I used a single flute Datron carbide endmill to cut it. The design file also has "@hscpro" on the far left. While I'd much appreciate your keeping my screen name on my design, of course feel free to change this out to whatever. I use a 0.015" tipped 50 degree split shank engraving tool for this and it works great. -Shapeoko3 Dust Head- This is the dust head itself, pretty straightforward. I orient it vertically in my Qidi Tech X-one2 printer, so the mouth of the dust head is pointing upwards. -Shapeoko Dust Head Y Adapter- This is the adapter for bringing the two 1" vacuum hoses together to one to connect to your shop vac. This was designed to work with my shop vac, which is ShopVac model SE16-SQ550. I print this oriented vertically, with the two 1" openings pointing downward. Additional Stuff YOU WILL NEED: Here are the magnets that hold the window onto the head: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0XJD3O/ Here is the 1" vacuum hose that goes from the head to the Y adapter. I designed each to have a snug fit for this hose, I cannot assure a good fit with other hoses.
