I was inspired by this amazing thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:257089 to create matching Z axis mounts for my kit, aiming for a clean and uncluttered appearance. The upper Z axis mount may require adjustments for better positioning. I found screwing it on slightly challenging due to its location. Nonetheless, it works fine. The lower Z Axis mount uses 5mm X 15mm screws. Mine are longer than required but were the only ones available at that moment. I have recently updated my progress with a video (http://youtu.be/6VvwGszE8Xo), showcasing the stock Shapeoko 2's functionality. However, it seems to be quite unreliable and potentially hazardous. I encountered issues while cutting a small bracket, which led to wastage of materials. Hence, I have halted using the machine until I can get my hands on a TinyG stepper motor controller. The GRBLShield, in my experience, generates excessive electrical noise, causing unexpected plunges and damaging engraving bits. This issue has occurred twice during homing commands. Hard limits don't work either due to interference. If you are considering a Shapeoko, I recommend purchasing the mechanical kit with NEMA 23 motors and TinyG. The full kit's electronics and small motors seem subpar.
