Shanrahan - TS087-022004- - Sheela-na-GIg
sketchfab
On the outer edge of the E gable of Shanrahan church, 0.3 meters above ground level and 0.3 meters from the southeastern angle, a rough pebble-dash coating covers the SE portion of the sheela-na-gig and may have completely hidden it in the past. A triangular red sandstone stone, measuring 0.47 meters on one side and 0.58 meters at its base, supports the figure. Carved in relief on this stone is a sheela-na-gig identified by O’Riordan (1999, 197-8). The carving depicts pronounced jug-ears, a slightly tilted head with legs splayed and arms pulling the vulva. Facial features show noticeable wear. Another sheela-na-gig appears on the W face of the church tower.
