On the W face of Shanrahan church tower (TS087-022002-) stands a squat, crude figure carved in high relief immediately below the blocked opening at second-floor level. The wall has been rendered up to the edge of this unique carving. Large projecting ears and a depression for one eye are distinctive features of this figure, with the outer eye being an incised almond-shape. Although the nose is not clear, there is a depression representing the mouth. A long, thick neck supports a very squat body. In typical sheela-na-gig pose, the arms are bent at the elbow and rest in the vulva region; however, the hands and vulva are not well defined. The short, squat legs are slightly splayed, with the figure situated approximately 7m above ground level. Another sheela-na-gig (TS087-022004-) adorns the E gable of the church. Given that the tower appears to date from the 18th century, it is likely that this sheela-na-gig, which may be from the 15th century, has been displaced from its original position.
