The human body is a remarkable machine that functions smoothly on autopilot most of the time. It's only when something goes wrong that we even notice its intricate workings. Our hearts beat steadily, pumping life-giving blood to every corner of our bodies without us even thinking about it. Our lungs breathe in and out, exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide with a rhythmic efficiency that would put any well-oiled machine to shame. And yet, despite this incredible complexity, the human body remains surprisingly resilient. It can withstand all sorts of abuse and neglect before finally giving up the ghost. But even then, it's a slow and laborious process, as if the very fabric of our being is determined to cling to life with every last ounce of strength it possesses.
