Shaman Mask

Shaman Mask

thingiverse

This is a wearable shaman mask I designed and made from a 3D scan of a fox skull with some personal tweaks. The mask was conceived as part of my shaman costume, with the lower jaw hinged to the cranium so that when you open your mouth, the mask opens its jaw too, creating a creepy snap sound. Attached are pictures of the printing, gluing, and painting stages, plus one from the designing process, some shots of my costume, and an image that inspired this project (http://qarrezel.deviantart.com/art/Genganger-253977442). The mask can also be used as a Halloween pumpkin, as shown in the photos. Keep in mind that you might need to adjust its size by upscaling or downscaling it to fit your head properly. A trick I used was printing only the front part and leaving the back of my head exposed (like I did). You can see in the pictures below that I didn't use "Mask_up_3_back.stl" for the final assembly. Print Settings: Printer: Prusa i3 Steel Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20% Notes: Adding a geometry coupling between parts might help, but using the right glue should do the trick; I used Araldite and it worked perfectly. It's simple: an elastic rubber is strapped to both sides of the cranium, pressing against the back of my head; the jaw is attached so that it stays connected to my jaw. Hooks Hooks and Strap Mechanism How I Designed This: Autodesk Meshmixer Modeling I used a 3D scan of a fox skull and a 3D model of a human head. Then, I measured my own head and scaled up the 3D model so it fit on me. Next, since the skull was solid, I performed boolean operations to empty out the skull (skull minus human head). Finally, I refined the 3D model by adjusting eye distance, lower jaw geometry, and its position relative to the cranium; I also smoothed some teeth and thickened other parts. Shaman Cosplay Here are pictures of my complete shaman cosplay. I played this character at the Drachenfest, a live-action role-playing game in Germany.
