Shallow AC Outlet Box

by RebelTaz

I have a retractable reel AC extension cord that has a defective outlet strip. I'm replacing it with a standard 15-amp AC wall outlet, but I needed a box for it. Most commercially available boxes are too deep and I didn't have any of the shallow ones on hand, so I whipped this up in FreeCAD and printed it in PETG. The box is JUST deep enough for the outlet and the wires to fit. The outlet is held in place by the standard 6-32 screws that come with it and the faceplate is held in place by another 6-32 screw (1/4"-1/2" long) with a countersunk head.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

TEVO

Printer:

Tarantula

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2mm - 0.3mm

Notes:

I personally set the wall thickness to 0.4mm (the size of my nozzle) and then set the bottom layer count to 9999. This effectively gives 100% infill, but in a much better manner than any other combination of settings, especially around the screw holes.

Oh... and print the faceplate upside down to not need supports and for a better finish.

Category: DIY
