The carpet was created in 3ds Max 2013 using V-Ray 2.40.03, but saved in Max 2010 format. The scene consists of two objects: a carpet and spline_hair. If the hair doesn't expand to scale, check the settings for hair and fur by opening the scroll bar and activating "Recomb From Splines." Specify spline_hair as the input, and the hair will take shape. Delete the splines afterwards. Adjust the amount of hair and segments according to your needs - 500,000 and root thickness 2 are used on this carpet. For weaker computers, reduce the hair count and set the root thickness to 3-5. File formats include obj and fbx without fur. Before rendering, go to the Rendering - Effects tab, click Hair and Fur, and select mr prim mode below. If rendering in a crown, remove "daw" from Mr parameters with Apply mr Shader\ and drop the texture into Material Parameters by expanding the scroll bar into root color and tip color cells.
