Shaft drive for my custom printer.

Originally, this project followed one path but later reversed direction. The printer featured an 8mm shaft driven by pulleys on its large gantry requiring two belts for stability. A geared drive had been in place for months yet was deemed noisy. Improving print quality, the user decided to redo the drive. Initially, herringbone gears from a modified extruder were employed but proved challenging due to tooth alignment. Spur gears already on hand were used instead and served well for 7-8 months. The user then designed a holder for Nema17 motor and herringbone gears. A 608z bearing was required for the shaft. However, the gears remained noisy, and imperfections caught, so the idea was abandoned in favor of a belt drive. After printing a T2.5 pulley, the user tested various T2 gears until one worked well. The motor's firmware needed inversion as it went in the same direction as gears. This solution proved quieter and more forgiving of tolerances than gears. The user encourages viewers to check their YouTube channel for more design insights.
