Many people complain about the Z axis of the Prusa i2 and similar models because it often slips due to excessive weight being pulled down by its motor shaft coupler. At least one individual has had their X axis completely detach itself. This modified shaft coupler is inspired by a previous version presented by nophead, but with a key difference - it now includes two extremely strong neodymium magnets securely embedded inside. To use this upgraded design, allow the motor shaft to make contact with one side of the magnets, and have the lead screw connect with the other side of the magnets. These powerful magnets alone should support the weight of the Z-axis and print heads, even before you tighten the screws to lock the shafts to the coupler. It's essential that the metal shaft ends are perfectly flat and perpendicular to guarantee a strong magnetic connection.
