Shadow Boardgame
prusaprinters

A lamp that casts a gaming board as a shadow. Chess, Ludo and Mills are available so far.

Print instructions

Everything was printed without supports and should easily come together with a nice fit.

Notes on the light source:

To get sharp shadows you need to have a light source that is as point-like as possible. LED arrays/stripes or LED filament won't work.

To get all of the board illuminated you need to have an LED that is not very focused / has a broad directivity.

I achieved good results with TRU COMPONENTS 1577475 and Nichia NSDL570GS-K1.

For powering the light I used two CR2032 Batteries with 3V each.

My wire has a diameter of 0.6mm and is also used as contacts for the batteries. The batterie compartment has holes in top and bottom for the wire. The bottom wire is curled up below the batteries for a good contact. The top wire works as a clamp.

Playing Pieces

To not interfere with the shadow flat playing pieces are preferable. For example 3Demon made this nice set of chess pieces that would make a nice match: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/73739-travel-chess-tube

It could be fun to also incorporate glow-in-the-dark-filaments.
