Sewing thread spool holder
thingiverse
Just a little tool to organize sewing thread spools for my girl. I designed it as my first thingiverse object. It measures 210 mm by 152 mm, just right to fit into a nearby box that was already here. Space for 34 spools, leaving enough space for fingers to grip one snugly in place. Spools up to 30 mm in diameter will fit without any problems - even larger ones if you modify neighbor spool diameters. Please take a glance at the instructions quickly. Instructions You should be able to print it successfully in ABS or high-quality PLA. Lower-grade PLA is more brittle, so avoid using that. Try printing it with a minimum shell thickness of 0.8 mm - go for thicker layers if you dare use bad-quality PLA or want even more stability. Don't bother optimizing top-layer thickness, as that's irrelevant. To reduce print time, try omitting the bottom layer and choose an attractive infill pattern like about 20%. Just be cautious not to make it too flexible. Your printer settings should be virtually perfect when it comes to stringing and oozing - any imperfections might give you some tough work cleaning the pins later on. I successfully printed this design at a slow pace on my trusty Prusa i3 with Orbitech ABS in roughly 6 hours, mostly thanks to the time-consuming base plate.
