I create 3ds models in Max 2016, then export them to a format compatible with older versions. The shaders used are custom NV-Ray versions with the GGX algorithm enabled for more realistic lighting effects. Upon conversion, I preserve original geometric data by skipping smoothing groups for OBJ and FBX file formats. Objects are specified with millimeter unit measurements, and I carefully align their positions at 0, 0, 0 coordinates within the 3D space. In Max, a TurboSmooth modifier is added to enhance polygon performance before final rendering takes place, without altering actual geometry or details.
