A friend challenged me to create one of these cutting board puzzle pieces, so I decided to give it a try. I had some leftover 18 mm beech wood that I was eager to use, and before long, two identical pieces were taking shape. The interlocking design is deliberately made 1 millimeter smaller to ensure a snug fit without being too tight. When cutting the two halves on my CNC machine, I made a small error in my CAM settings. Instead of making multiple passes, I accidentally cut through all 18 mm at once at a speed of 1800 mm/min. At first, I was worried that this might cause some issues, but to my relief, it worked surprisingly well. After cutting the pieces, I used a handheld router to round over the edges and smooth out any rough spots. A final sanding session left them feeling silky smooth, and a coat of mineral oil gave them a rich, warm finish. As for the STL file, I'm not sure if it'll be useful for anything beyond 3D visualization, but feel free to use it as a starting point for creating your own smaller version.
