Septimius Severus, a powerful Roman emperor, was born on April 11, 145/146 AD in Leptis Magna, Tripolitania, which is now modern-day Libya. He would go on to rule from 193 to 211 AD and establish a lasting dynasty that shaped the course of Roman history. As the first emperor to found a personal dynasty, Severus transformed the Roman government into a military monarchy, paving the way for the absolute despotism that defined the later Roman Empire.
