Separator by Red River

Straw racks in Red River Special steel separators, built before 1925, featured five impressive shakers. The first four shakers were transported and powered by sturdy Brady shaker carriers positioned on the inside of the separator. These carriers were supported by four sturdy wooden hangers pivoted at the top. Two additional wooden hangers attached to each of the four shakers on the rack and pivoted from the top, moving them close to the sides of the separator. As the carriers moved forward and backward, the arms connected to the sides of the shakers produced a smooth up-and-down movement. The last shaker was carried by four hangers positioned outside the separator and driven by two short pitmans operated by the shaker carriers.
