[Sensor Sub-Component] Floating Puck
thingiverse
Floating Puck This Thing is a simple, cylindrical puck which fits inside my Water Level Sensor Housing to provide the Sharp Infrared Distance Sensor with a solid black surface to reflect off of. It has an outer diameter of 44mm, giving it 2mm of clearance on all sides within the 48mm (inner diameter) Water Level Sensor Housing. Preparation ABS plastic tends to degrade and "leach" into water, so it is advisable to coat the entire part in some sort of sealant. Clear Shellac Spray has been used, and it benefits from being non-toxic and natural Lac resin-based, a type of insect resin used to coat food products, making it ideal for sensitive environments like aquariums or food-contact settings. Instructions Design All parts were created with Autodesk Fusion 360 CAD software, using the UP slicer program and an UP Mini printer. A circle was sketched, extruded upwards, then shelled, added a top, and joined all components. Printing 90-100% infill is recommended for optimal performance. Other settings, like hollow shells, will also work with (up to) 90% infill. A raft is necessary to ensure a good base shape free from distortion, eliminating the need for support structures.
