The fuel gauge, similar to those in modern cars, typically resides within the fuel pump assembly. In this simple design, I've separated the float arm and sending unit. No fasteners are employed, aside from one holding the cover to the tank (not shown). This setup could suit a stationary gravity-feed system but automotive manufacturers would only require a single hole in the tank's top surface. Bottom holes are unseen due to manufacturer preference. Resistors within the sending unit alter resistance based on float arm rotation, which the gas gauge, functioning as an ohm meter, interprets from empty to full. This assembly, senseleval_a3, can be integrated into a congenital fuel pump for automotive use.
